It's official
Right it's now official. I've realised I really don't like having too many people around in my life. Am I becoming one of those confirmed misanthropes ? Sujata - Stay out of this. Deviant Bengali opinions don't count. Why is it that everytime someone tries to get involved I tend to rebuff them. I'm sure there must be a fancy psycho syndrome which is what I have. Or perhaps it's just me clamoring for attention as always. And on another note HENRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!

Dutch Football
Being a Dutch Football man means being ever hopeful. Being a Dutch football fan means watching your team play great soccer and still getting beaten. Being a Dutch football fan means really really praying like crazy when the team is awarded a penalty. Being a Dutch football fan means being prepared for a zillion shots off the crossbar, side bar and every other bar around the goal including the bloody stadium bar.

Travails of A Sports Fan
Sometimes I do wonder why I am such a big sports fan. Why can't I just be happy sitting and watching TV like other people. Why this need to follow something which has little or no relevance to me ? Why oh Why did the Lakers have to lose to the Pistons ? I don't think I can take the forthcoming 8 seasons of Lakers rebuilding. Come back all is forgiven, I need to believe.

Decline and Fall
There are 2 sporting events taking place which showcase how teams deal with their decline. In Euro we have probably one of the best French and Portugese teams in their last major tournament and in the NBA we have the Lakers in the finals. Of the lot only the French seem to have the self belief necessary to coax themselves into giving bravo performances. The Portugese still seem to be assailed by self doubts and the Lakers continue to be the Lakers. Perhaps we do need a huge hyper inflated sense of importance the way the French have about their nation to be successful. Perhaps we do try to play up to our own perceived self images.

Sunday Preachings
I do have a lot of action happening around me it seems. In the first place I do not know how I am going to survive this month. We have Euro 2004, Wimbledon, NBA Finals and cricket all taking place simultaneously. God please give me strength to make it through this period of late nights and early mornings. And for all you taking the easy way out by not watching - wimps!. This friend situation is getting serious. Most of my friends are now past the stage of getting married and are now having kids. I have about 4 friends who are still unmarried. And congratulations to Jagadish who became the latest entrant to fatherhood. Welcome to having no social life for the next 2 years.....

Plugged In
I sometimes wonder how Internet dependent I am. I do agree that I seem to turn to the Internet for most things right from Movie ticketing to buying stuff. I also wonder if that is a good thing ? Am I getting isolated from the real world ? Increasingly I find myself chatting better on a messenger window (Yahoo or MSN - take ur pick) but having issues on a face to face or even on the phone. Is it a good sign that my Internet personality is far more pleasant than my real one. Decisions/ Decisions!!!!
Love Actually
I just finished watching Love actually. I wonder what possesses people to make movies like that. It of course was not as bad as Boom and never even close to "God Only Knows". God Only Knows is IMHO the worst movie ever made. Bharat Dabholkar (Curse You) should be made to watch it over and over again. Or perhaps he could watch Boom and Kaizad Gustad could watch God Only Knows. Speaking of Kaizad my friend Kurush Canteenwala's docu "New Empire" is definitely worth watching. Jeez it's a mumbai that's going away and I miss it so.......

Email Bankruptcy here I come
This is a great new one. Email bankruptcy. I just love the phrase. I wonder what his auto reply message would be and what would that do for his credit rating ? On a more serious note - Are u getting your sleep in ? Euro 2004 begins in a couple of days and I'm sure I'm going to be sleep deprived. Being a Dutch fan (and hating Van Nistelrooy) is sure to ensure mega trauma for me.

Sybaritism
I think I am a full fledged sybarite viz. Unabashed in my pursuit of creature comforts. The amount of gadgets I have in the house is completely out of synch with my position as a bachelor. Again not quite in line with the image of a Tam Brahm who's motto is to suffer and be parsimonous through his life in order to achieve fiscal nirvana after he is too old to enjoy it and then his sons/ daughters blow it all up. Jeez.......

Incredible Webness of Being
I've suddenly realised that I depend on the web for most everything. My cousins are over and where I use the web for finding out stuff they use the phone. 9 times out of ten they managed to beat me in getting the information faster. Which leads me to only one conclusion - COME ON INDIA - Get with it. And for those asking me about she who is special - Status Quo.....

Hum Tum
Why do I keep doing this to myself ? I was told by Priyanka that the movie was horrible yet I insisted on going and seeing it. She was partially right. Saif Ali Khan was phenomenal in his normal lightweight role. He seems to be getting stereotyped in this kind of role. The first 20 minutes were bearable before it sort of became bogged down in this am not sure what I want to be mode. And can someone please do something about Songs in Hindi Films ?
The Upside of Delhi
As someone told me there has to be a silver lining to the dust cloud that is Delhi. I do freely admit that there are benefits to being in Delhi like the sheer space, access to various national parks, access to good sports facilities, blah blah blah. But the sheer fact that Delhi is filled with Delhiites is good enough to discredit everything. Every Delhiite considers it his god given right to occupy 2 parking spaces.....

Something Something
Here we are in the middle of a week. Extremely unremarkable week this is. I sometimes wonder what in the world are we doing. This is obviously on those days when I am even more underemployed than usual. I think we are happiest when we are learning (viz when we were young!). As time evolves the learning curve starts to flatten. That's when discontent sets in and we try to recapture the charge by switching jobs. I guess that's when people get married so it's a entire new challenge. Then you have kids which is again new learning. Hmmm that's a interesting thought - Marriage as learning.

Don't Ask Me Now
C'mon people please don't push me for the name. If it does happen then will reveal else ditch it.
On something completely different - If somebody wants to build a temple to the demi god who invented Air Conditioning (Willis Haviland Carrier for those who want to know) Please count on a contribution from me. Just about the only thing keeping me sane now.
